About our history…
SMAC (Southwest Minnesota Agrifuels Cooperative) was a new generation, value-added cooperative that was incorporated on May 10, 1994. The purpose of forming the cooperative was to design, finance, acquire a site, construct, own, operate and maintain a dry mill fuel ethanol plant.

In March of 1996, a limited liability partnership was formed between SMAC and POET. This partnership, with SMAC as the majority owner, is called POET Biorefining - Bingham Lake. At that time, SMAC became a closed cooperative with 256 members.

We completed a 2.5 for 1 unit split on January 1, 2008 increasing the number of outstanding units from 2,019,000 to 5,047,500.

On May 1st 2009, SMAC converted to a Limited Liability Company (LLC) for tax purposes and eliminated the corn commitment of the members.

  Today:
We are now called Southwest Minnesota Agrifuels, LLC (SMA, LLC) and have approximately 270 members. Our proud partnership with POET has continued and will be strong into the future.
We have units available.  If you are interested please contact:
